Asociación Patrimonial Cultural de la Región de Los Ríos met with Senator Ena Von Baer and the PEC Corporation

Recently, the adminsitration of the Asociación Patrimonial Cultural de la Región de Los Ríos held a telematic meeting with Senator Ena Von Baer, along with members of the Corporación Patrimonio Edificado y Contexto de Valdivia (PEC). One of the points discussed was the restoration of the Teatro Alemán de La Unión, which is subject to the latter.

At the meeting, the team of the PEC Corporation, headed by Gerardo Saezer, in charge of restoration design management and habilitation of spaces and Antonio Ruiz – Tagle, in charge of public management for financing and strategies for the habilitation of spaces, commented on the importance of the establishment for the commune of La Unión, as well as the progress that has been made so far. “Since 2017 we have been working on this theater that was formerly an important center for the German immigrant community. Today, by rediscovering it, it takes on a communal and provincial dimension that is complemented by the Los Ríos region,” said Gerardo Saelzer. For his part, Antonio Ruiz-Tagle added that “through the enhancement of identity, an opportunity for economic development can be achieved. We believe that this theater should be an immediate reference for other buildings in the city and thus restore an identity that can support La Unión in building a quality destination for tourism.

COMPLEMENTARY WORK

Looking forward to joint work between the two entities, Senator Ena Von Baer stated “I believe that there can be an important synergy between the association and PEC on this issue, especially in the search for resources for the second stage of restoration. There’s a tremendous opportunity, where we must also look much more strongly at the Ranco Province”. The Senator also took the opportunity to pledge his full support in relation to the needs that the Asociación Patrimonial Cultural de la Región de Los Ríos may have in future actions.

Similarly, the Executive Director of Asociación Patrimonial Cultural de la Región de Los Ríos, Rubén Soto, emphasized that “we certainly commit from now on all our support in this project, so we will coordinate in the near future meetings with the PEC Corporation to outline a working route”.

The German Club Theater, located in the center of La Unión, was built in 1909 and reopened in 1926. The project considers the rehabilitation of those spaces and equipment required for the reactivation and proper functioning of the venue, which in total covers 1450 m2.
